Latest drivers and updates for software
In our email newsletter we detail which are the best drivers to use or not use with various software, in our opinion. We can't promise to test everything but do test the versions we use on our own systems. This page will lists the current drivers and ones we would recommend you do not use.
Blackmagic devices support many different programs on many different platforms, and with different connections (PCI, USB3 and Thunderbolt) so it is quite hard to summarise the current state of play simply. For more detailed information please visit the Blackmagic website.
Black Magic's latest drivers are 9.7.1 and are designed to work with Avid Media Composer 6 & 6.5, and Adobe Premiere Pro. Although their website only mentions Premiere Pro CS6, they work with CS5 as well.
These drivers seems to have an issue with audio sync when capturing in various programs, although they do make the USB3 devices work on some computers on which they will not work normally. The previous drivers, 9.7, generally worked ok, except one some devices we would not get any HDMI output from Adobe Premiere Pro (although they worked fine with DaVinci and Media Express).
The drivers with which we have had the least problems are the 9.6.8 drivers which were released a couple of months ago and still available via the Blackmagic website. We suggest you stay with these drivers unless you have a pressing need to update. The 9.7.1 drivers have generally done useful things for people using the USB3 and Thunderbolt versions of the Blackmagic devices.
