What's new in EDIUS 6?

There have been a lot of changes with the new version of EDIUS. You will find below more information on all the important changes. There are actually quite a few more small enhancements which we have not listed, and there are about 100 new features in all!.

You can buy either the full EDIUS 6, EDIUS Neo 3 or an upgrade from EDIUS 5 to EDIUS 6.  There is no upgrade currently available for people who have versions before EDIUS 6; there was an upgrade available in 2010 but that was only available until the end of 2010.  Owners of EDIUS 4 or before need to be a complete new copy.

Titling options for EDIUS 6

EDIUS has its own competent titling program called QuickTitler. This will do static, rolling and crawling titles. If you want fully animated titles then there are several other options.

Videostar VisTitle for EDIUS £250 +VAT
VisTitle is an extremely powerful new titling program for EDIUS that can do animated 2D and 3D titles and a lot more besides.

ProDad HeroGlyph for EDIUS £175 +VAT
HeroGlyph can do character-by-character animated titles as well as many other things including video walls and hand drawn paths (either to create a hand-drawn title or to make an object, like a car, follow a path on a map). It is very easy to use once you get past the non-standard interface - in fact all you really need to do is follow the instructions written on screen! Animated paths are not as customisable as with VisTitle although you have a huge variety.

Title Motion Pro for EDIUS 6 - £210 +VAT
Title Motion Pro has been available to use with EDIUS for many years and is a highly customisable program that can do still and animated 2D and 3D titles.  It is actually a "dead" product (ie it is not being developed any more by the makers).  It is supported in EDIUS 6 but Grass Valley have said they will not support it in the next version or EDIUS, so if you do not have Title Motion Pro you are better off to invest in one of the other titling programs, Heroglyph or Vistitle.  If you have Title Motion for EDIUS 5 then Grass Valley had an update on their support site (only until the end of 2010) to make it work in EDIUS 6.

Vistitle - animated titles for EDIUS 6

Vistitle - animated titles for EDIUS 6

A new animated titling program for EDIUS 6. Vistitle will work with either EDIUS 5 or EDIUS 6 and can be accessed like every other EDIUS titler.

Improvements to editing and trimming with better track patching, more trimming and editing shortcuts, and a re-designed timeline with sync-locking per track.  You can now playback the video full screen on any computer, or have a full-screen playback on a second monitor attached to your graphic card.

The layout tool is enhanced and can do 2D and 3D motion, the region tools becomes the mask tool which lets you draw a mask which you can animate and apply effects inside or outside.  You can also use this to rotoscope an image, i.e. cut out a section to be superimposed over another image, complete with feathered edges.  Adobe users have to go to After Effects to get this functionality!  There is now a track matte filter as well as enhancements to existing effects including proper alpha channel support for plug-ins like ProDAD Vitascene.

The DVD/Blu-ray writing has improved so now you can have motion menus, can print the timecode/date information on files on a DVD and you can adjust the highlights, meaning it does nearly every thing most people want.  There are more export options as well including the ability to write AVCHD files back to an SD card for playback in the camera - a first for an editing program.
