 The Sonnet Fusion D800 is an external 8-drive hard disk array, which ranges in capacity from 4TB to 8TB.
Besides its huge size, its main advantage over other external storage systems is its sheer speed. This is thanks to the internal RAID configuration that can be used to combine the drives' storage, and exchange data with them collectively at a greatly enhanced rate. With the RAID 5 system used to chain the drives together, the Sonnet Fusion D800 is fast enough to handle a single stream of uncompressed 10-bit 1080 4:4:4 HD, or multiple streams of uncompressed 8-bit 1080 HD, DV, HDV, or DVCPRO video. Furthermore, the RAID 5 system will dedicate one drive to 'parity' (protection), which ensures that all stored data is preserved, even if one of the drives should fail completely.
The Sonnet Fusion D800 uses a PCI Express RAID controller card (supplied) to interface with your PC and provide the high speed access to your stored data. | | | | | | | |
