Liquid Pro Box
Pinnacle have produced an external USB box for LE6 - called the MovieBox Pro - which will give you analogue in and out including component and Surround Sound via the SPDIF output, as well as playing all your realtime effects out through the analogue connections.
In version 5 the only way to see the realtime effects on TV was to use the Edition Pro board, a specialised graphic card. Now this has changed and any powerful enough system will output RT effects using the MovieBox Deluxe - this includes some of our DVC laptops! Another advantage of the new Pro box is that it will work with dual head graphic cards - so you no longer have to use a PCI graphic card to have a dual screen system. With the right graphic card you can also get video overlay on both screens - not just the main one as with the old pro board. The MoveBox Pro is a big step forward all round. To make this new box work Pinnacle have had to rewrite the way their realtime effects work - you will need a more powerful machine than before to get multiple layers of effects, as well as a graphic card that properly supports DirectX 9 and has at least 128MB RAM on board. We have tested LE6 on an older, 2Ghz system, and LE6 does not do as many layers of effects as LE5, although on a standard modern 3Ghz system we are still managing 4 layers of pnp happily. Also as Pinnacle have improved the quality of some of the CPU based effects you cannot achieve as many of these in realtime as before - but of course the results are better! If you have the old Pro board this is still supported by LE6 - and still performs exactly as it used to. The MovieBox Pro gives you more, including component, surround sound output and live MPEG capture, but users of the Pro board will need to upgrade their system to take advantage of it. . |
