Matrox MXO2LE

Matrox MXO2LE

The MXO2 LE is like the MXO2 mini but includes and SDI interface. This means it can edit in up to 10 bit uncompressed HD video through SDI either with Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer 6.  The MX02 LE can also work off external battery power, which the MX02 Mini cannot.  The MX02LE also has an SVIDEO socket on board as well as composite and component.  The MX02 Mini can input and output through SVIDEO but you have to use an adaptor plugged into two of the phono connections,  so it is not a huge difference.  You can have 3 outputs active at any one time - analogue (SVIDEO, composite or component), HDMI and SDI.  You can configure different settings for them as well - for example high definition through SDI and HDMI, and standard definition through the analogue connections, with the MX02LE scaling the video to fit both formats.  These means that you can edit at HD and see the picture in both SD and HD when editing, and as the MX02 handles all the conversion it does not impact on your computers performance.  This ability is included in all the MX02 range.

The Matrox MX02 LE works on Windows Vista and Windows 7 with Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 & Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, and on Windows 7 with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (CS5.5 support was added early June 2011 but only under Windows 7, NOT Windows Vista).

The MX02 LE also works Avid Media Composer 6 - support is limited to either Windows 7 64 bit or Mac OSX (ie it will not work on Vista 64).  Media Composer 6 is a 64 bit program so will only work on a 64 bit version of Windows or the Apple operating system.  When you install the MX02 for Avid MC6 it will also install plug-ins into Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and some other programs such as LightWave.  Although it will also install plug-ins into Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 if it is installed on the same system, Matrox do not recommend that you use Premiere in Matrox mode with the current AVID drivers.

If you have an MX02 MAX then it will install into Adobe Media Encoder if present so you can encode using the MAX chips on the MX02. The MAX chips are not directly supported in AVID or any of the programs that come as part of the AVID suite.
