We have 4 basic HP Avid validated Z440 systems. HP systems can be configured in many ways and we can order ANY specification we like from HP; however if we do so it takes over 3 weeks for HP to get the system to us, before we can reconfigure it properly as an editing system and send it to you. These 4 systems represent specific versions of the Avid-validated specification that we can normal supply to you in our regular 5-10 day lead time.
The 4 systems all have 1 Xeon processor. There are two different processors - on is a 3.5Ghz 6 core processor and the other is a 3Ghz 8 core processor. Even though the 8 core processor is slower than the 6 core teh fact that it has 2 more cores means that it is more powerful. Avid recommend having a higher number of cores over processing speed.
Avid only validate Quadro graphic cards. Quadro cards can accelerate certain effects inside of Avid as well. Quadro cards are more expensive then "normal" nVidia cards. Since these systems are designed to be the basic Avid validated spec that also include a quite "moderate" Quadro, the K2200. The Dual Xeon Avid systems have either the K4200 or K5200 card. The biggest limiting factor for Avid performance is processing power; you could but the K4200 or K5200 into these single processor systems but would benefit more by buying a dual Xeon system over the single Xeon Z440.
Avid have only validated a 512MB SSD primary drive or a 1TB 7200RPM mechanical drive for use in their systems. The normal mechanical drive will work fine for Windows but the solid state drive is better and will make the whole machine boot faster and work more seamlessly. A smaller SSD would work just as well, however, Avid have only validated this system with a 512MB SSD, hence it being the only SSD option.
This system will come with a standard DVC 1 year warranty and an HP 3 year warranty. The DVC warranty covers everything in the system and include support on the Avid software. The HP Warranty covers the parts included in the "basic system" part of this quote. If a video drive fails, for example, this is not covered the the HP warranty but by the DVC one. If the Quadro graphic card, motherboard or SSD drive fails that would be covered by the HP warranty. The standard HP warranty is a "next business day" warranty. This means they guarantee to respond to any problems by the next working day. You can upgrade this to a 4 hour response time for £35+VAT if you prefer.
The DVC warranty covers the entire machine including the software and any other items you have included in the order from us. If there is a problem with the system contact us and we will help solve the problem over the phone. If this cannot be done we will pick the machine up, if it is inside the DVC warranty, bring it back to our premises and fix whatever the problem is, and send the machine back to you. If, in our telephone diagnose we determine the problem is with an HP part then we will get HP to come to your premises and fix it for you using their warranty. In many cases the problem can be sorted out over the phone without recourse to having the machine picked up. We will respond to any problems as soon as possible. We are available Monday-Friday 9.20 to 5.30 and normally respond to support calls within an hour or two.
After the first year has passed and DVC Warranty has expired we will still help you over the phone with technical problems, but if a part needs to be replaced or we have to carry out any work on the system at our premises they will be a reasonable charge involved. Of course the HP parts will still have 2 years of their warranty remaining.
