DVC Demo footage
When we first started DVC in 1995 we made a demo tape showing how you would edit video on a computer, as at the time hardly anyone did so. Nowdays people are a lot more computer literate so we have not updated our videos for a couple of years.
The latest demo DVD was produced in 2005, so is slightly long in the tooth. However most of the information contained in the demo footage still holds true - Edius 5, for example, can do everything that we show in the Edius 3 demo and more, and the reasons for choosing Edius over, for example, Premiere Pro remain the same. These video will at least give you a flavour of the program and you can come to us at DVC in Portslade for a full demo.
Below are some of the complete sections, available for free viewing To keep the file sizes small the video has been heavily compressed. Also at present we are only running this from our own website, not a dedicated video server. We will set this up in due course. For the best results we would suggest that you right click on the file and download it to your PC.
| Section | small file | large file |
| Basic introduction to HDV by Richard Payne | 5MB | 13MB |
| Premiere Pro and the Matrox RT.X100 - Premiere Pro is still one of the best programs available and the Matrox cards are by far the best to use with it. This video shows the Matrox RT.X100 and does not mention HDV editing as performed by Matrox RT.X2, but does show you some of Matrox special effects as well as showcasing Premiere Pro. | 14MB | 32MB |
| DVD writing and Ulead DVD Workshop 2 - An introduction to DVD creation using one of the best programs available - Ulead DVD Workshop 2. | 18MB | 52MB |
| Canopus Edius Pro 3 - Canopus’ program has finally come of age and is one of the best HDV editors, as well as being great for standard definition footage - find out why. | 20MB | 56MB |
| Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6.1 A good all round program packed with features - the basics of the new program, the multicamera and DVD writing options and editing HDV. | 15MB | 56MB |
DVC Open Day 25th February 2006
On the 25th February we had an open day which was simultaneously broadcast across the internet. The footage presented here is from the demonstrations carried out on that day. It is not as polished as our demo DVD presentations as we were mixing live and doing the demo at the same time - apologies as well that on some occasions it is not possible to hear the audience clearly.
| Newtek TriCaster | A demo of the NewTek TriCaster - which was being used at the time to broadcast the open day! | 31MB |
| Avid Liquid 7 | A look at the new features of Avid Liquid 7. | 59MB |
| HDV Cameras | A chat regarding the current crop of HDV cameras with special guest star John Kelly of JVC to talk about the JVC HY-101 | 48MB |
| Making DVDs and the future of DVD | A short demo of Workshop followed by a discussion of High Definition DVDs | 53MB |
| Canopus Edius | A similar demo to that available on our demo tape - although the demo tape is more polished | 54MB |
| Editing HDV with Adobe Premiere Pro | The basics of using Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.1 or CineForm Aspect HD | 43MB |
In each case we have a low resolution version, viewable at approx 56k, and a higher resolution version. You can attempt to play these clips off the DVC web server, although this is not set up as a proper video server. Alternatively download the file by right clicking and choosing "save target as.."
